Díaz fanned two of the three batters he faced. Christian Yelich singled, but he was then caught stealing for the middle out. It’s Díaz’s 18th save in 19 chances. He also got one Wednesday, so he might be down against the Yankees on Friday; he’s yet to work on three straight days this season. If Díaz is off, then Ryne Stanek, who would also be pitching for a third straight day, or Reed Garrett might close.

It’ll be his first MLB start after two appearances in which he’s allowed one run in six innings. He pitched four innings last time out for Triple-A Syracuse, and he could probably throw around 80 pitches if all goes well today.

Peterson, who was coming off consecutive losses in which he gave up five runs apiece, got the win tonight, moving him to 6-4 with a 3.18 ERA. Peterson is an excellent groundball pitcher, but this is the fourth straight outing in which he’s walked three batters and struck out no more than five. He had a 71/25 K/BB ratio over 79 2/3 innings in his first 13 starts. In his last four, he has a 16/12 K/BB and a 5.64 ERA in 22 1/3 innings. He’ll face the Orioles next week.

Baty hasn’t at all built on his great May, and he might be looking at losing some playing time, especially once Jesse Winker returns. He can’t really complain about it, either, given that he’s now up to 235 major league games with a .216/.279/.344 line and a 76 OPS+.
