It was Sheehan’s first start since the 2023 postseason, and all things considered it went pretty well. The 25-year-old held San Diego to three hits, and the only blemish in terms of run-prevention was a run-scoring single by Elias Diaz. He needed just 65 pitches in the outing — 43 of those landing for strikes — and he looked the part for the overwhelming majority of the start. He’s worthy of streaming consideration when he faces the Rockies on Tuesday even with that start taking place in Colorado.

The 23-year-old has now homered in back-to-back games and has 10 homers on the season to go along with a .276/.393/.470 slash line and 55 RBIs in 69 games. He’s the 44th-ranked prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, but there is no place for him in Los Angeles right now. Perhaps he’s used as a trade chip at the deadline to help the Dodgers’ injured rotation. If not, we likely won’t see him until 2026, unless there’s an injury.

That’s the fourth time that Smith has hit a walk-off homer, and remarkably, three times they’ve come as a pinch-hitter. He just missed a homer earlier in the at-bat against Robert Suarez on a ball that just went foul down the left-field line, so he went the opposite way to evade the outstretched arm of Fernando Tatis Jr. Smith has eight homers, 41 RBI and .333/.438/.528 slash in 2025. If not for Cal Raleigh, you could call him the best backstop in baseball this year.

It’s a shame that Wrobleski doesn’t have five scoreless frames, as he was ever-so-impressive over the first four innings after relieving Emmet Sheehan. He held the Padres scoreless and to just one hit in that timeframe, but he faltered late while allowing two runs — one of them unearned — to tie the game. Still, this was a solid effort, and one that might earn Wrobleski a chance to start in the coming days/weeks.
