Quietly, Clement has had a great season and has been scorching hot in June, going 28-for-74 (.378). That has come with just six extra base hits, one home run, and no steals in 19 games, which highlights a bit of the downside to his game from a fantasy perspective. The batting average will be there, and the runs will be too when Toronto is hot, but Clement won’t help you much in the other categories. Still, he could be a valuable piece depending on your team’s needs.

The veteran struck out seven and walked one while posting a strong 34 percent whiff rate and 33 percent CSW. He wasn’t sharp with the cutter today, but the rest of his pitches were commanded well in the zone and missed bats. He needed just 82 pitches to cover six innings, and it’s possible the Blue Jays wish they had pushed him longer, given that their bullpen imploded in a loss. Bassitt will be in for a much tougher outing in Boston next week.

Scherzer added that he’s feeling fine after completing a roughly 40-pitch bullpen session on Sunday morning and that he’ll return for Wednesday’s showdown in Cleveland. The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer has been on the shelf since late March working his way back from a persistent thumb issue that he’ll likely need to manage for the rest of the season. There’s some definite streaming appeal here for fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues, but the persistent durability concerns aren’t going to vanish at this stage of his legendary career.

It’s an extremely encouraging development for the Blue Jays and fantasy managers that Barger isn’t facing an extensive absence after being scratched from Saturday’s lineup with right hip discomfort. The 25-year-old breakout slugger presumably checked out fine after additional evaluation and testing since he’s back in Toronto’s lineup at third base and batting second for Sunday’s series finale.

Hayes came into the game hitting .235 in June with a 12/1 K/BB ratio, so this was a nice game for him. He does have three steals in June, which is good for fantasy leagues, but the power has never developed, and the counting stats continue to be lacking while hitting near the bottom of the Pirates’ lineup. He’s not a fantasy option outside of the deepest formats.

Rengifo’s homer is just the fourth of the season for the 28-year-old, and it came off an ineffective Brandon Walter in the second inning. The infielder has disappointed after a relatively-solid 2024 campaign with a slash of just .220/.256/.301.

Suárez hit a sac fly to drive in his first run in the first, and then drove himself home with his 25th homer of the season in the third. The 33-year-old’s power has always been his calling-card, but it seems likely that he’s looking at his first 40-homer campaign since 2019 and maybe his first ever trip into the 50-dinger club.
