It’s the second save of the season for Weissert. He came in to protect a two-run cushion, so a fielder’s choice off the bat of Anthony Volpe that scored Paul Goldschmidt didn’t hurt the Red Sox; just Weissert’s ERA. It seems unlikely he’ll get many more save chances, but that’s two in the last week.

Houck has completed several bullpen sessions since hitting the injured list back in mid-May with a forearm flexor strain and will progress to his first rehab outing later this week. The 28-year-old righty got off to a disastrous start this season, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he got a couple rehab starts to attempt to iron things out and get back on track.

Anthony and Mayer got a chance to face exactly one of New York’s three left-handed arm, squaring off against Ryan Yarbrough and Carlos Rodón respectively, during this series. The pair of elite prospect will open Sunday’s contest at Fenway Park on the bench in favor or Rob Refsnyder and Abraham Toro. It feels like only a matter of time before they get their opportunities to face southpaws on a consistent basis, especially Anthony, who had success against them in the minors.

The nerve issue is directly impacting his right shoulder, which has kept the high-leverage reliever from resuming a throwing program. The 27-year-old is likely facing an extended absence given this latest development and fantasy managers shouldn’t anticipate him returning until after next month’s All-Star break.
