Davis didn’t drive in any runs, as Jared Triolo, hitting one spot ahead of Davis, had zero of the Pirates’ 16 hits today. It’s the first career four-hit game for Davis, and he raised his average from .178 to .207 today. He’s started five of the Pirates’ 12 games at catcher since Joey Bart came off the injured list, and it’d probably take a few more games like this for the Pirates to consider using him anywhere else.

Both homers were two-run shots. The struggling Cruz hadn’t homered since June 10 or had a multihit game since June 4 or had a multi-RBI game since May 28. It’s his second career two-homer game; he also had one on May 23 just before his slump started.

It was quite the quick hook for Burrows. He had just given up a homer, but it was a solo shot with one out, and he was only at 67 pitches with the No. 9 hitter coming up. It probably did factor in that Burrows pitched in relief Wednesday, putting him on three days’ rest today. Still, it was just 31 pitches, and it was his only action in the last nine days. The early exit means Burrows remained stuck at one win through seven big-league starts. He should face the Mariners next.

It would have been a save if Mike Burrows had gotten two more outs, but Burrows was ineligible for the win after being pulled with a 6-1 lead in the fifth. Mlodzinski has a 3.09 ERA in 11 2/3 innings of relief work since being recalled earlier this month.

Garver got the Mariners on the board and tied the game at one run apiece with an RBI single off of Jack Leiter in the sixth inning that plated Randy Arozarena. He then drove in Arozarena once again in the 10th inning with an RBI knock that extended the M’s advantage to 3-1. The 34-year-old backstop finally put the game out of reach with a 437-foot (108.7 mph EV) two-run shot off of Cole Winn in the 12th inning. With this three-hit attack, Garver is now slashing .227/.327/.352 with four homers and 20 RBI on the season.

Goodman takes a seat for the fourth straight game as he continues to battle a lingering hamstring issue. The 25-year-old backstop remains day-to-day at the moment. There should be a clearer picture concerning whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list following Monday’s off-day ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Astros. It’ll be rookie Braxton Fulford continuing to handle the catching duties in his absence.

Atlanta will continue rolling with the hot hand at catcher with Murphy drawing his second consecutive start after going 2-for-4 with a grand slam during Saturday’s victory over the Phillies. Meanwhile, rookie Drake Baldwin is hitting just .186 (8-for-43) with two homers over his last 15 games.
