Happ has been shifted to the lower third of Cubs manager Craig Counsell’s lineup card after taking a seat during Friday’s showdown with lefty Carlos Rodón on the hill. It’s notable that Nico Hoerner is leading off against another lefty in Max Fried. Happ has been ice-cold at the dish in recent weeks, batting .119 (7-for-59) with one homer and 17 strikeouts over his last 15 games. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s back in the leadoff spot for Sunday’s first-half finale when righty Will Warren takes the ball for New York.

Kriske sipped a quick cup of coffee earlier this season with the Cubs, making one relief appearance back in late May. The 31-year-old joins Chicago’s relief mix ahead of Saturday’s game against the Yankees, where he spent the first few years of his career after being drafted back in 2016.

Flexen, who’d given up just three earned runs over 32 2/3 innings this whole season, matched that total in this start. Two of those three runs came via a Cody Bellinger home run and it felt like Flexen was lucky to only let those three runs in with the constant traffic on base against him and the Yankees’ seven hard-hit balls in total. Hopefully no one trusted the 0.83 ERA he entered this game with enough to trust him in Yankee Stadium.

It was a breakout game for Langford, who hit a two-run home run off Ryan Gusto in the seventh inning. It was home run No. 15 for him on the season. The 23-year-old outfielder hasn’t had the breakout season many pegged for him preseason, but once again showed glimpses of that promise with four hits, a home run and a stolen base. Langford is hitting .246 with a .767 OPS and 38 RBI on the year.

The 24-year-old outfielder lined an RBI triple into the gap in right-center off of Luis Castillo in the sixth inning, pulling the Tigers to within two runs at 4-2. He then scored on a sacrifice fly, but that wound up being the extent of the Tigers’ scoring. With his two-hit attack he’s now hitting .281/.334/.529 with 22 homers, 73 RBI and one stolen base.
