The 23-year-old right-hander had been extremely impressive — hurling five innings of scoreless no-hit baseball — prior to exiting after twisting his right ankle following a 2-0 pitch to Victor Scott II to start the sixth inning. He walked three batters while striking out five in the outstanding performance. He’ll head for further evaluation, though hopefully it’s nothing too serious.

The last three earned runs came after Quintana intentionally plunked Willson Contreras in the fifth inning, and while it did sort of seem warranted, it might well have cost the Brewers the game, which they ended up losing by three runs. The goes as both Quintana’s shortest start and the most runs he’s allowed this season. He dropped to 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA ahead of a start against the Twins next weekend.

It was the third bullpen session that the 30-year-old southpaw has completed in his recovery from a left elbow flexor strain. He’ll repeat the process again next week with a pair of up-downs before he’s cleared to face live hitters for the first time. He’s still at least a month away from potentially being an option to help out the Brewers’ rotation.

Mitchell and fellow rehabbing outfielder Blake Perkins (shin) have both been cleared to begin their rehab assignments. Mitchell has been sidelined since April 25 due to a strained oblique. Brewers’ skipper Pat Murphy told reporters earlier in the week that he anticipates both of them returning to the roster at some point in early July barring any setbacks.
