Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters Peña is still dealing with some soreness in his ribs after being hit by a pitch during Friday’s showdown and the club doesn’t want to take any risks in advance of Monday’s off-day. It’ll be Mauricio Dubón continuing to fill in at shortstop in his absence. The positive news for fantasy managers is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and the 27-year-old infielder isn’t facing a lengthy absence. There’s a chance he’s ready for Tuesday’s series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field’s high-octane offensive environment.

Valdez was outstanding against the Cubs on Sunday, holding them scoreless over six frames. He started the seventh giving up a double and a base hit before he was relieved by Bryan Abreu, who left both runners stranded. Valdez scattered five hits and two walks, striking out six. The 31-year-old left-hander will take a 2.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 108/39 K/BB ratio across 109 innings into a start against the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Saturday.

After the Mariners scored a pair of runs in the top half of the 10th inning, Seager answered back with a 395-foot (106.2 mph EV) two-run blast off of Carlos Vargas that knotted things up at three runs apiece. That would wind up being his only hit in four at-bats on the afternoon, though he also worked a walk. The 31-year-old shortstop is now hitting .244/.342/.430 with 10 homers, 22 RBI and one stolen base through his first 52 games on the season.

Trevor Megill had recorded the first two outs in the ninth inning without issue as Arcia strolled to the dish representing the Rockies’ final hope while trailing by one run. After taking a knuckle curve for a strike to start the at-bat, Megill doubled up on the pitch and Arcia crushed a 386-foot solo shot to left center that tied the game at 2-2. That would be Arcia’s only hit in four at-bats on the day. For the season, the 30-year-old infielder is slashing just .196/.228/.299 with two homers and six RBI, so this will be a season highlight for him for sure.

There’s been no indication that Neto will require a trip to the injured list, and he’s been able to come off the bench to pinch-hit in each of the previous two games, but the Angels are going to give him some extra time off to rest and recover with Monday’s off-day looming. It’ll be veteran Kevin Newman handling shortstop in his absence. The 24-year-old shortstop figures to be ready for Tuesday’s series opener against Atlanta at Truist Park.
