It only took the Astros three days to find a fracture this time, so they’re getting better. They’ll have to get by with Mauricio Dubón at shortstop until Peña is ready to return. No timetable was provided, but if the fracture is small enough, perhaps he could return right after the break.

The Astros are saying it’s a really small fracture, and Peña might have a chance of playing once the 10 days are up. Still, they won’t know if that’s realistic until after he resumes swinging a bat, probably at the end of this week. If he feels OK swinging, then he could return pretty much immediately. For now, Mauricio Dubón will start at shortstop.

It’s a concerning development, but the decision appears precautionary in nature since the Blue Jays can hardly afford to take any chances that it snowballs into a larger issue. There should be some clarity on the 27-year-old impending free agent’s status at some point shortly. It’ll be Ernie Clement taking over at shortstop and batting leadoff during Monday’s series opener against the division-rival Yankees.

After the Mariners scored a pair of runs in the top half of the 10th inning, Seager answered back with a 395-foot (106.2 mph EV) two-run blast off of Carlos Vargas that knotted things up at three runs apiece. That would wind up being his only hit in four at-bats on the afternoon, though he also worked a walk. The 31-year-old shortstop is now hitting .244/.342/.430 with 10 homers, 22 RBI and one stolen base through his first 52 games on the season.

Trevor Megill had recorded the first two outs in the ninth inning without issue as Arcia strolled to the dish representing the Rockies’ final hope while trailing by one run. After taking a knuckle curve for a strike to start the at-bat, Megill doubled up on the pitch and Arcia crushed a 386-foot solo shot to left center that tied the game at 2-2. That would be Arcia’s only hit in four at-bats on the day. For the season, the 30-year-old infielder is slashing just .196/.228/.299 with two homers and six RBI, so this will be a season highlight for him for sure.
