The run never should have happened. Carson Kelly would have fouled out to right, but Nick Castellanos botched the routine play, overrunning the ball. Since Castellanos didn’t touch it, no error was called, and Kelly went on to double and later come around to score. Luzardo gave up 20 runs in his previous two starts, taking his ERA from 2.15 to 4.46, but he didn’t seem to be having any stuff issues in the process. He got 16 missed swings today and threw 70 of his 99 pitches for strikes while going without a walk. He’ll face his former team next week in Miami.

Suárez was downright masterful here. Toronto didn’t have a runner reach scoring position until the seventh inning and barely any balls in play had the chance to do damage. His changeup was the star, forcing four swings-and-misses along with plenty of soft contact sitting on the low and away corner against this right-handed heavy Blue Jays lineup. Suárez looks a lot like the pitcher he did in the first half last season with a 2.32 ERA after another gem. He’ll look to keep his momentum going next time out against the Marlins.

Schwarber’s homer was the big blow for the Phillies in this game against Kevin Gausman who was excellent outside of a horrific second inning. That was Schwarber’s 22nd long ball of the season, good for fourth in the league, as he’s putting together one of the best overall seasons of his career to this point.
