Both Gusto and Mitch Spence held their opponents to a single run in this contest, so both come away without their deserved victories. The only run Gusto gave up was a solo homer to JJ Bleday, and outside of that he allowed just two other hits and one walk in one of his best starts in the majors. Gusto will look to build on this outing and continue to lower a 4.31 ERA against the Angels over the weekend.

Espada added that McCullers suffered the injury on Saturday during a “freak accident” in the club’s weight room. The 31-year-old is dealing with a sprain above his big toe and isn’t expected to require a lengthy absence. It’ll be Ryan Gusto taking the ball on Monday night against the Athletics in his place with Jason Alexander coming up to fill his rotation spot on Tuesday evening.

Duran took advantage of a misplay by Dom Canzone in the corner outfield and put his ever-so-impressive wheels to use. That’s already the eighth triple of the season for the 28-year-old, which puts him on pace for 17 in 2025. It’d be easy to say that number isn’t sustainable, but he’s coming off a 14-triple season in 2025, so, sure.

Arozarena worked Luis Ortiz for a walk to open the second inning and scored the game’s first run on an RB single off the bat of Miles Mastrobuoni. He walked again in the third inning and swiped second base but was left stranded there. The 30-year-old outfielder also walked in the fifth inning, stole second base and scored the M’s final run on an RBI single by Mitch Garver. Despite the poor batting average, he has done a nice job overall at the dish this season, slashing .231/357/.393 with eight homers, 28 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
