Kumar Rocker has met up with the Rangers in Arlington and would be an option to start for the Rangers on Sunday in the event that Mahle is unable to give it a go. The team could also decide to roll with Kumar on Sunday anyways and give Mahle a couple of extra days to allow the soreness to subside. Stay tuned.

As expected, Carter will get an extra day off to rest after jamming his wrist while making a diving catch during Friday’s victory over the White Sox. Wyatt Langford will slide over to cover center field while Sam Haggerty will draw a start in left and will bat ninth against White Sox’ right-hander Mike Vasil on Saturday.

Bochy elaborated, “It’s just a little sore. We don’t think it’s serious or anything. He could play tomorrow. We’ll see. But more likely, he’ll get a day off to see if we can get that calmed down.” It sounds like unless Carter wakes up feeling significantly worse on Saturday that he’s not going to be heading for any additional testing and should be able to return to action before the weekend is through.

Báez, who was out on the play, tried a swim move with his left shoulder and seemed to be in pain afterwards, but he came out for the fourth and finished the game, even as the Reds turned it into an 11-1 blowout. Odds are this will prove to be nothing, but it seemed worth a mention anyway. Báez went 0-for-3 with a walk in the contest.

The 25-year-old slugger has been sidelined since early June due to a right hamstring strain. He should only require a couple of games to get his timing back at the plate before he’s ready to rejoin the Mets. If all goes well, he could be ready to return at some point during next weekend’s series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

The good news is that while the Astros made a flurry of roster moves on Saturday, Paredes heading to the injured list was not one of them. He has shown significant improvement since exiting Thursday’s game due to a hamstring strain and is expected to rejoin the Astros’ lineup in another day or two. Mauricio Dubon will start in his place at the hot corner on Saturday.
