This was a 1-0 game through five. After that, the Mets jumped ahead 2-1, fell behind 6-2 and then scored four in the eighth to tie it. The remaining run came when Soto singled in the automatic runner in extras. Soto is sitting at .269/.399/.509 for the season, and it just feels like, if the world happens to still exist 1,000 years from now, how Soto didn’t get picked for the 2025 All-Star Game is going to be one of its biggest mysteries.

The All-Star break is just next week, so it sounds like Marte should be able to rejoin the Mets before the end of July. When he does return, the Mets will need to decide if they’re keeping both him and Jesse Winker on the active roster, which would likely mean that Mark Vientos or Ronny Mauricio would need to head to the minor leagues.

Holmes allowed one run through five before five straight reached against him to begin the sixth. It was surprising just how long the Mets stuck with him as they fell behind 5-2, but Holmes has great numbers with RISP this season and manager Carlos Mendoza must have figured he’d pitch his way out of it. He didn’t, but at least Richard Lovelady and Alex Carrillo stranded the inherited runner and finished the inning without any further damage. Holmes struck out five in the contest. He’s slated to face the Royals on Sunday.

Brazoban had to strand the automatic runner after the Mets pushed only one across in the top of the 10th, but he did so without incident. Edwin Díaz pitched the ninth in a tie game and got a victory tonight.

The Brewers then placed Berroa on the minor-league injured list with right elbow bursitis. Berroa was designated for assignment Thursday, and will be a depth piece for Milwaukee for the remainder of 2025.

This move has been discussed for a few days, but is now official. The 24-year-old has been great this season with a 2.82 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 99/26 K/BB ratio across 76 2/3 innings (15 appearances, 14 starts) between Triple-A and Double-A. He has a high-velocity cut/ride fastball with two good secondaries, but his start on Wednesday against the Mariners will be a big step up in competition. If he performs well, he could remain in the rotation until Luis Gil returns and potentially even keep a spot over Marcus Stroman after that.

Atlanta isn’t going to take any chances with their franchise icon with next week’s All-Star Game at Truist Park looming large. The 27-year-old fantasy superstar will sit out Tuesday’s series opener against the Athletics in West Sacramento out of an abundance of caution. He’s presumably day-to-day for now. He’ll be re-evaluated in the coming days to determine whether he’ll still participate in the All-Star Home Run Derby on Monday night. It’ll be Eli White taking over in right field with Jurickson Profar moving up to the leadoff spot.
