Ryan Zeferjahn, Reid Detmers and Hunter Strickland finished the four-hitter, as the Yankees were blanked for a third straight game. It’s the first time Hendricks has struck out nine since he had his fifth career 10-strikeout game on Sept. 18, 2020. He came into today’s game with a career-low 14.5% K rate this season. The win makes him 5-6 with a 4.79 ERA ahead of a start Sunday against Houston.

As Feinsand notes, the Angels “have been hesitant to trade Ward during the past two years,” but he has a near $8 million salary and only one more year of club control, so this could finally be the time. Ward has 18 home runs in his first 69 games this season while also driving in 47 runs with a .741 OPS. He ranks in the 86th percentile in barrel rate and the 87th percentile in chase rate this season, and really turned his year around after a slow start. Feinsand lists the Guardians, Padres, Rays and Royals as potential trade partners.

Soler is 5-for-42 with no extra-base hits and a 17/4 K/BB this month, leaving him with an awful .207/.280/.350 line for the season. It’s not like the Angels’ alternatives are really any better, but given his lack of defense and any ability to contribute on the basepaths, Soler is quite the liability when he’s not mashing.

Anderson returns to the fold as extra organizational relief depth for Los Angeles after electing free agency over the weekend. The 30-year-old journeyman reliever has compiled a bloated 7.59 ERA across 10 2/3 innings (six appearances) this season for the Angels.
