The double missed being a homer by inches, bouncing off the top of the wall in right-center. Schwarber also had a 114-mph lineout to right today. He has 60 RBI this season, putting him on pace to finish with 110. That would overtake his career high of 104 from both 2023 and ’24. Of course, it helps that he’s not batting leadoff this year.

Luzardo was perfect in the first and allowed only an unearned run in the second before a disastrous third that opened with a bunt single and then went walk, single, double, double, single before the left-hander was pulled. Luzardo had four strikeouts and 12 missed swings, so that wasn’t a problem. Only three of the balls in play against him were hit hard. It’s his third particularly ugly outing in his last seven starts, but only in the first of those was he truly hit hard. He does need to get the walk rate back down, though; he issued three free passes today and he’s given up 11 in 18 2/3 innings over his last four starts. He’s slated to face the Giants on Wednesday.

He’s expected to progress to true bullpen sessions Sunday. After that will come live batting practice and a rehab assignment. He’ll be eligible to come off the IL right after the break, but realistically, he’s probably about four weeks away.

Steer’s double was a liner over the third baseman’s head that hit the chalk down the left field line, giving the Reds a 5-3 lead in a game they’d win 9-6. Steer is 18-for-41 with four homers and 12 RBI in his last 11 games, raising his OPS from .631 to .726.

The 30-year-old slugger is still in the process of recovering from a left shoulder subluxation. Nothing has changed in his prognosis, this was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for Lazaro Estrada on Friday.

It was a short stint for Malloy in the majors, as he was just recalled Wednesday. He’ll head back to Toledo with Reese Olson (finger) activated off the injured list. Malloy will be back at some point this summer.
