Stroman’s velocity was a little better tonight, as he averaged 90.6 mph with his sinker. He was still hit fairly hard, but most of the contact was on the ground and he kept the Yankees in the game while they were getting no-hit by Bryan Woo. Stroman did get checked on towards the end of his outing, as it looked like he tweaked his knee running to cover first. However, he was able to remain in after one warmup throw. He ends the first half with a 6.66 ERA in six starts.

This was a masterful start by the newly minted All-Star Rodón. It was his first time completing eight innings as a Yankee and he did so by burying slider after slider on these Cubs hitters. That pitch forced 13 swings-and-misses on its own and looked even more dominant than that at times. Also, teammate Aaron Judge helped him out with two diving catches and a home run robbery of Pete Crow-Armstrong. Rodón will close out the first half with a 3.08 ERA over 119 2/3 innings with 135 strikeouts as one of the more impressive pitchers in the American League.

In what was a revenge game against the team that traded him away for salary relief this past offseason, Bellinger made the Cubs know what they were missing. He supercharged the Yankees’ offensive attack with three homers in a blowout victory. Funny enough, what would have been a fourth was robbed by Kyle Tucker in the seventh inning. We were that close to witnessing history. Nevertheless, Bellinger will close an incredible first half with an .838 OPS, 18 home runs, and nine stolen bases.

No official word yet, but we’re assuming Fried didn’t want to pitch on two days’ rest after starting Saturday. Rodón doesn’t seem like a great replacement choice at this point after posting a 5.34 ERA in his last six starts, but he was excellent prior to that.
