Winn tagged Cubs’ right-hander Jameson Taillon for a 383-foot (97.2 mph EV) two-run shot in the third inning that pulled the Cardinals to within a run at 5-4. With his two-hit attack, the 23-year-old shortstop is now hitting .256/.324/.391 with seven homers, 29 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

Mathews also walked six and struck out one while throwing only 22 of his 55 pitches for strikes. There’s no word on if the 24-year-old was injured, but he did battle shoulder soreness earlier in the season, so this kind of outing is particularly concerning.

Gorman did his damage in the fourth inning, crushing a 2-1 fastball from Jameson Taillon for a 432-foot (106.5 mph EV) game-tying solo shot. He also singled twice in the ballgame. Hopefully this is just the type of game that he needs to get his bat going as he’s slashing an anemic .226/.322/.418 on the season with six homers and 21 RBI in his 171 plate appearances.

The 30-year-old right-hander came on with a one-run lead to protect in the ninth inning and immediately made things interesting by allowing a one-out single to Kyle Tucker. He battled back to strike out Seiya Suzuki before allowing a two-out single to Pete Crow-Armstrong that pushed the tying run to third base. Not to fear though, as Helsley got Dansby Swanson to ground out to third base to end it. On the season, he has converted 15 of his first 20 save chances on the season while posting a 3.54 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 33/12 K/BB ratio across 28 innings.

Neto stayed in initially after getting hurt, but he left the game after airmailing a throw afterwards. He’s optimistic he’ll be OK, but he wants tests for reassurance. If Neto needs an IL stint, Kyren Paris could take over as the Angels’ primary shortstop.

Neto appeared to be in some discomfort after sailing a throw to first base to start the ninth inning. He would leave to the clubhouse with a trainer. We await official word on his status as he’s evaluated.

It’s the first career multi-homer game for the 26-year-old infielder. Ortiz opened the scoring in the ballgame as he ambushed a first-pitch fastball from Andrew Heaney for a 397-foot (104.6 mph EV) two-run blast in the third inning. He then belted a 1-2 changeup from Heaney for a 398-foot (102.4 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth that extended the Brewers’ lead to 6-0. He also plated a run with a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning. On the season, Ortiz is now slashing .217/.275/.297 with four long balls and 18 RBI on the season.
