Shaw takes a seat on Wednesday night amid a brutal 17-for-101 slump that includes only one homer and six steals over his last 30 games. It’ll be veteran speedster Jon Berti getting a shot at the hot corner. It feels inevitable that the Cubs are going to bring in some extra third base depth at the trade deadline in a few weeks.

Hodge heads back to the injured list for the second time this season after serving up three homers and recording only one out during a calamitous relief outing on Tuesday night against Minnesota. The 24-year-old righty is going to wind up missing at least a few weeks, even in a best-case scenario.

Imanaga struck out just one and was hit incredibly hard tonight — his average exit velocity against on 22 balls in play was 96.9 mph — so that he ceded just two runs was pretty impressive. Fortunately, the five balls he gave up in excess of 106 mph turned into just a double, two singles and two outs. He also didn’t walk anyone. The loss leaves him 5-3 with a 2.80 ERA. He’ll make his next start Sunday against the Yankees in the Bronx.

Arenado missed three games while dealing with a right shoulder impingement. There’s a chance he could see some maintenance games between now and the All-Star break, but for now, he’s feeling well enough to play and that’s obviously a positive development. Nolan Gorman gets a breather with Arenado back in the fold.
