It snaps a three-start losing skid. Liberatore allowed five hits, walked none and struck out four, which sounds pretty good. Of course, he was facing a bottom-five offense, and his 86 pitches produced just four missed swings and 11 hard-hit balls. Liberatore should be avoided in mixed leagues for now. He’ll pitch at home against the Reds next.

With Jordan Walker back and Nolan Gorman making a case for more at-bats, Burleson is going to be challenged for playing time again. However, he’s been one of the Cardinals’ most consistent threats over the five-plus weeks, with his OPS jumping from .638 on May 9 to .789 now. He’s now started 10 games in a row, even facing a couple of lefties during the span.

It’s his third four-hit game of the season. As of this second, Donovan is tied with José Ramírez for fourth in the majors with a .323 average. And we don’t mean pretend tied, where one is hitting .3232 and the other .3228. Nope, both guys are 83-for-257 this season.

Nootbaar is back in the lineup after sitting out a pair of games over the weekend in an effort to reset mentally after going hitless (0-for-23) during his previous five contests. The 27-year-old has been shifted down to the seventh spot in St. Louis’ lineup with Brendan Donovan taking over the leadoff spot.
