    Recap

Matt Strahm struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Strahm was summoned in the top of the ninth to close out the game with a one-run lead over the Blue Jays. He tossed a clean frame, striking out one batter to convert his third save of the season. Strahm should continue to be in the mix for regular save chances alongside Jordan Romano.

    Recap

Cristopher Sánchez allowed two runs with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Sánchez gave up a run in the second inning on a double and a base hit. The Blue Jays brought a second run in to score on a hit batter and a double in the fifth. Sánchez would toss two more scoreless innings, ending his day with just the two runs allowed and five strikeouts over seven. The 28-year-old left-hander will take a 3.05 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and an 88/28 K/BB ratio across 79 2/3 innings into a start against the Marlins in Miami on Thursday.

    Ranger Suárez

    Recap

Ranger Suárez only allowed four hits and one walk en route to shutting the Blue Jays out over seven innings with six strikeouts in an 8-0 win on Friday.

Suárez was downright masterful here. Toronto didn’t have a runner reach scoring position until the seventh inning and barely any balls in play had the chance to do damage. His changeup was the star, forcing four swings-and-misses along with plenty of soft contact sitting on the low and away corner against this right-handed heavy Blue Jays lineup. Suárez looks a lot like the pitcher he did in the first half last season with a 2.32 ERA after another gem. He’ll look to keep his momentum going next time out against the Marlins.

    Injury

Colton Cowser (general soreness) remains out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Angels.

Cowser will get some extra time off to rest and recover following a collision with the center-field wall during Thursday’s game against the Tigers. The 25-year-old outfielder isn’t dealing with anything specific from an injury standpoint, but he’s going to sit out his third consecutive contest on Sunday afternoon. It’ll be Cedric Mullins patrolling center field in his place.

Reds claimed OF Ryan Vilade off of waivers from the Cardinals and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.

The 26-year-old outfielder had been designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Thursday. He’ll say in the National League Central where he’ll report to Triple-A Louisville. Vilade went 1-for-13 in his limited action at the big league level for the Cardinals.

Colton Cowser remains out of the Orioles’ starting lineup for Saturday’s battle against the Angels.

Cowser is dealing with a variety of injuries after crashing into the outfield wall on Thursday and has now missed each of the O’s next two ballgames. It doesn’t sound like he’s going to require a trip to the injured list, but if he isn’t ready soon the Orioles’ hand may be forced here. Cedric Mullins will start in center field and bat eighth for the O’s against Tyler Anderson and the Angels on Saturday.
