This was hinted at by Mets manager Carlos Mendoza over the weekend and has now come to fruition. With Starling Marte dealing with a knee injury, the Mets could choose to use Winker right away as a designated hitter against right-handed pitching. While we don’t yet know what the corresponding move is, we do know that Ronny Mauricio will not be sent down to Triple-A, so that gives him more chances to carve out playing time in 2025.

It’s now official after Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Senga would take the ball on Friday without any restrictions from a workload standpoint. He also added that southpaw Sean Manaea (oblique) is poised to come off the injured list to take the ball on Sunday for the club’s first-half finale in a piggyback start with Clay Holmes. There’s a chance this plan changes in the coming days, but it sounds like both Senga and Manaea will return later this week to provide the Mets with a lift.

Fernández, 28, once looked like a possible closer of the future for the Cardinals, but his control never came around. He spent part of last year in Japan, and he had a 4.93 ERA and a 53/26 K/BB in 38 1/3 innings for the Royals’ Triple-A club this season.

Keaschall was off to an excellent start in the majors before suffering a right forearm fracture that sent him to the injured list back in late April. The 22-year-old top prospect should be ready to kick off a minor league rehab assignment at some point in the coming days. He should make it back to Minnesota’s lineup by the end of July, if not sooner.

Alvarez remains shut down from hitting after receiving injections last week to address lingering pain in his right hand that is unrelated to the hand fracture he’s been recovering from. There should be a clearer return timetable from the Astros at some point after next week’s All-Star Game. It’s been a frustrating situation for fantasy managers.

Fernández has been on the bench for both games against lefties since he arrived in the majors, and his five starts have seen him twice be hit for by Kyle Farmer with a lefty on the mound. That would all make sense if he were playing for a contender and major league ready aside from being able to hit lefties, but Fernández is 22, clearly not a finished product and playing for one of the worst teams of all-time. He needs to be allowed to try to improve against lefties, whether it’s in Triple-A or in the majors.
