    Jesse Winker

    Jesse Winker

    NYM • DH • #

Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Friday that Jesse Winker (oblique) is still weeks away from starting a minor league rehab assignment.

When he landed on the injured list in early May, Winker was given an initial timeline of around 6-8 weeks with his right oblique strain. We’re almost at the six-week mark now, so he’s trending towards being just outside that initial estimation. Barring any setbacks, he should be able to rejoin the Mets before the All-Star break.

Mark Vientos (hamstring) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse early next week.

The 25-year-old slugger has been sidelined since early June due to a right hamstring strain. He should only require a couple of games to get his timing back at the plate before he’s ready to rejoin the Mets. If all goes well, he could be ready to return at some point during next weekend’s series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Jose Siri (leg) has been shut down from his recovery from a fractured left tibia after suffering a setback.

Recent testing revealed that his fractured tibia hadn’t healed quite as well as anticipated, so the Mets will back off of his rehab to give him some more time to recover. He will be shut down from baseball activities for at least a couple of weeks before undergoing additional imaging to see how it has progressed. At this stage, there’s no clear timeline for when he may be able to rejoin the Mets.

    Injury

Kodai Senga has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain.

All things considered, that’s the best possible news that the Mets could have heard following Senga’s evaluation. He’ll rest for a couple of weeks before being reassessed. It sounds like if everything goes according to plan, he should be able to rejoin the Mets’ rotation before the All-Star break.

    Injury

Betsy Helfand of the St. Pioneer Press reports that the Twins will place Royce Lewis on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring strain.

Helfand reports that the strain is on the “milder” side, but not so mild that it won’t require another stint on the injured list for Lewis. The 26-year-old could return by the end of June or start of July if there are no setbacks, but a more concrete timeline should be provided in the coming days.

    Recap

Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 and hit his seventh homer Saturday against the Cubs.

The homer off Matthew Boyd, which produced the only run of the game for the hapless Pirates, was McCutchen’s 326th of his career, moving him past Willie Horton, Jermaine Dye and Justin Upton for 127th place all-time. Next up are Shawn Green and Mo Vaughn at 328.

    Giancarlo Stanton

    NYY • DH

    Injury

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Giancarlo Stanton (elbows) is expected to return against the Angels next week.

That series begins next week, and it could be either Monday or Tuesday according to Boone. It’s remarkable progress for Stanton, as it seemed possible — maybe even probable — that the slugger was going to need surgery on both elbows and miss the 2025 campaign. The 35-year-old will have some rust to shake off even after the rehab assignment, but everyone knows what Stanton is capable of with his prestigious power.
