Gilbert was one of the outfielders the Mets got back in the 2023 trade for Justin Verlander. The 24-year-old was the 53rd-ranked prospect in all of baseball at the time of the trade, but things have not gone well for him in 2025, slashing .222/.337/.348 with four home runs, two steals, and 26 RBI in 56 games in Triple-A. Considering he also slashed .215/.313/.393 in 56 games at Triple-A Syracuse last season, there is reason to be skeptical about him reaching the ceiling many had projected for him.

The Braves are that much worse than Triple-A teams, eh? Montas, who gave up eight homers and had a 12.05 ERA in 18 2/3 innings on his rehab assignment, had an extra shot of adrenaline tonight; his 96.2-mph average on his fastball was up 1.2 mph from his Tripel-A starts and up 0.6 mph from his 2024 average. He wound up allowing three hits, walking three and striking out five. We still don’t suggest trusting him in mixed leagues, even if it’s tempting to stream him Sunday in a matchup against the Pirates.

Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns downplayed concern regarding the issue to reporters on Tuesday, adding that he’s optimistic Manaea will resume throwing next week and potentially be activated shortly afterwards. The 33-year-old lefty was in the final stages of making it back from an oblique strain that he suffered back in spring training. He struck out seven over 5 1/3 innings on Friday in his latest minor league rehab outing. There should be some official clarity on his return timeline once he resumes throwing next week.

Winker’s return will create a roster crunch for the Mets, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll make it back for at least another couple weeks based on his current timeline. The 31-year-old on-base machine has been out since early May recovering from a Grade 2 oblique strain.

It was just the second home run this month for Conforto and his fifth of the season as he’s struggled at the plate, hitting .171/.298/.290 with 28 runs scored across 258 plate appearances.

Greene smacked a one-out double off of Luis Severino in the third inning and scored on a two-run double off the bat of Wenceel Perez. He also singled in the seventh and scored on Zach McKinstry’s RBI single. Greene then capped off the scoring in the contest with a two-run knock off of T.J. McFarland in the eighth. Greene has now recorded three or more hits in three of his past four games and is slashing a sizzling .299/.352/.538 on the season to go along with 17 homers and 61 RBI.

All eight runs came on two-run homers off Ben Brown. Nootbaar hit the first of them, followed by Brendan Donovan, Alex Burleson and Nolan Gorman. Nootbaar might finally be pulling out of the slump that cost him the leadoff spot in the St. Louis lineup; he’s 6-for-19 with two homers in his last five games.
