Acuña, the NL Rookie of the Month for April, was 10-for-65 with no extra-base hits and two walks in his last 36 games. That’s a .345 OPS. Just 23, he’ll benefit from playing regularly in Triple-A for a spell.

Senga gave up four hits, walked two and struck out four. The 32-year-old right-hander was pulled after just four innings and 67 pitches out of an abundance of caution. He didn’t quality for the win, but otherwise had a very successful return after landing on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. Senga will take a 1.39 ERA and 74/33 K/BB ratio in 77 2/3 innings into the All-Star break.

The Pirates wanted to add a fresh arm to their bullpen in favor of a bench bat on Friday which means that Triolo finds himself as the odd man out. The 27-year-old infielder has slashed a miserable .158/.553/.266 with three homers, 10 RBI, five stolen bases and a 29/17 K/BB ratio over 160 plate appearances with the Pirates this season.

Triolo victimized Tigers’ left-hander Tyler Holton for his 422-foot (106.3 mph EV) to straight away center field in the second inning, extending the Pirates’ early lead to 3-0. That would be his only hit in the contest, as he finished the night 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts, though he also worked a walk in the 10th inning. On the season, the 27-year-old infielder is slashing a cringe-inducing .179/.276/.308 with three long balls and nine RBI.
