The 29-year-old infielder actually opened the scoring in the ballgame as he smacked an RBI single off of Luis Ortiz in the home half of the second inning. He then rode home on J.P. Crawford’s game-changing grand slam. That would be Mastrobuoni’s only hit in four plate appearances on the day. For the season, he’s slashing an underwhelming .241/.323/.295 with just one home run, nine RBI and three stolen bases in 130 plate appearances.

Crawford broke the game open in the second inning as he crushed a 1-2 slider from Luis Ortiz for a 377-foot (99.0 mph EV) grand slam to right field that increased the M’s advantage to 5-0. That would be his only hit on the afternoon but was more than enough to support Emerson Hancock and company. On the season, the 30-year-old shortstop is now hitting .296/.411/.413 with six homers and 29 RBI.

Arozarena worked Luis Ortiz for a walk to open the second inning and scored the game’s first run on an RB single off the bat of Miles Mastrobuoni. He walked again in the third inning and swiped second base but was left stranded there. The 30-year-old outfielder also walked in the fifth inning, stole second base and scored the M’s final run on an RBI single by Mitch Garver. Despite the poor batting average, he has done a nice job overall at the dish this season, slashing .231/357/.393 with eight homers, 28 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

The 26-year-old right-hander punched out four batters on the afternoon. Hancock was in complete command from start to finish in this one. Both of the hits that he allowed were singles and at no point in the ballgame did the Guardians even have a runner touch second base against him. Two of the three runners that did reach were erased on double play balls. Hancock got 11 swings and misses on 85 pitches on the day — four each on his changeup and slider — while registering a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll look to build off of this brilliant start as he brings a 4.48 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and a 45/21 K/BB ratio (62 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s tilt against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Marte has turned his season around in a big way. He has a .960 OPS over his last 15 games and has worked his way back into a nearly full-time role at designated hitter for the Mets since Mark Vientos went out with a hamstring injury. Sadly, as he’s now 36 years old, he’s no longer anything close to the prolific base stealer he once was with four on the season.

He’ll stay there at least through the weekend before being re-evaluated. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since late May due to renewed inflammation in his shoulder. The fact that he’s already back in live game action is very encouraging though and it’s possible that he could rejoin the big league club at some point next week if everything goes well.

The 27-year-old had already been at Triple-A Salt Lake on a minor league rehab assignment and now he’ll stay there for a bit longer while he rounds back into game shape. Campero should get another opportunity with the Halos before the summer is through.
