It’s the 10th homer of the season for Betts, but the first time that he’s gone deep since June 8; a lengthy spell for a player of his quality. The 32-year-old scuffled for the majority of the last month as seen in a .633 OPS, but everyone is aware of how good Betts remains and what he’s capable of. It’s still nice to get a reminder from a player who is slashing a disappointing .246/.321/.383 over his first 79 games.

May took a shutout into the eighth, but Brooks Baldwin hit a two-run homer off him with no outs to turn a dominant start into one that was still pretty darn good. The 27-year-old allowed only four hits throughout the contest and walked one while pounding the strike zone with 62-of-86 pitches landing. This was a nice bounceback from the clunker against Kansas City last weekend, and a reminder that May has exceptional talent. He’ll face the Brewers on Wednesday and look to build off this outing.

Freeman doubled in Shohei Ohtani in the first, and then doubled home Ohtani and Mookie Betts in the third. The 35-year-old slugger is now up to 47 RBI, and after a .200/.283/.274 slash line in June, perhaps this will be the start of another hot month.

The 31-year-old right-hander racked up eight strikeouts on the evening while walking just one batter. He got up to 78 pitches in the contest, throwing 51 of those for strikes. All of the damage done against him came on a three-run blast by Carlos Cortes. No official word yet from the Dodgers, but it seems likely that Glasnow could be cleared to return to the team’s rotation next week.

Story hadn’t had a four-hit game since Aug. 13, 2023. He’s 13-for-24 with two homers and 10 RBI in his last six games, raising his OPS to .697. He was at .591 on this day a month ago, and he hasn’t been over .700 since May 3. He’s also now 14-for-14 stealing bases. Byron Buxton, at 15-for-15, is the only other player with as many steals and zero failures.

Neto led off the game with a single off of Bryce Elder, swiped second base and scored the game’s first run on an RBI knock off the bat of Jo Adell. He then smacked a two-out double in the second inning and rode home on Nolan Schanuel’s two-run blast. Neto then did some yardwork of his own in the fourth, launching a 1-0 sinker from Elder for a 408-foot (104.9 mph EV) solo shot that extended the Halos’ lead to 4-0. With his three-hit attack, the 24-year-old shortstop is slashing a healthy .270/.311/.487 with 13 homers, 30 RBI and 14 stolen bases on the season.
