Yorke was acquired from Boston at last year’s trade deadline for Quinn Priester, so the Pirates are probably not thrilled about how well Priester has looked after overhauling his arsenal in Boston this offseason. Yorke is slashing .276/.346/.374 with four home runs and 11 steals in 64 games in Triple-A this season. At some point, he probably deserves a look in Pittsburgh.

Cruz remains stuck in the fifth spot despite a two-homer performance during Sunday’s drubbing of the Mets. It’ll be Spencer Horwitz leading off on Monday night as Pirates interim manager Don Kelly continues to shake up his lineup card. The 26-year-old power/speed combo center fielder has been scuffling in recent weeks, so the decision to drop him in the lineup could wind up igniting an offensive surge.

Both homers were two-run shots. The struggling Cruz hadn’t homered since June 10, had a multi-hit game since June 4, or had a multi-RBI game since May 28. It’s his second career two-homer game; he also had one on May 23 just before his slump started.

It was quite the quick hook for Burrows. He had just given up a homer, but it was a solo shot with one out, and he was only at 67 pitches with the No. 9 hitter coming up. It probably did factor in that Burrows pitched in relief Wednesday, putting him on three days’ rest today. Still, it was just 31 pitches, and it was his only action in the last nine days. The early exit means Burrows remained stuck at one win through seven big-league starts. He should face the Mariners next.

Westburg remains on Baltimore’s bench for the third consecutive contest after aggravating a left finger injury during Friday’s game against the Rays. The 26-year-old infielder has missed six of the club’s last eight games. There’s been no indication that he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but those odds increase exponentially the longer he remains sidelined. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. There should be some clarity on his status following Monday’s contest.

Marte ambushed a first-pitch splitter from Marlins’ right-hander Cal Quantrill for a 410-foot (103.5 mph EV) solo shot in the third inning that gave the Diamondbacks a 2-1 advantage. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the afternoon. For the season, the 31-year-old superstar is slashing an outstanding .305/.405/.600 with 17 homers, 37 RBI and two stolen bases in 247 plate appearances.

Fortunately, X-rays came back negative for any fractures and the 36-year-old infielder told reporters after the game that he wouldn’t require a trip to the injured list. Rojas had been 2-for-2 with an RBI prior to exiting on Sunday.
