Arenado has been battling through lingering shoulder and finger issues recently, so the All-Star break comes at an opportune time. The 34-year-old defensive wizard figures to sit out St. Louis’ final two first-half games this weekend against Atlanta. It’ll be Nolan Gorman and Thomas Saggese taking over at the hot corner.

No surprise here after Arenado was removed from Friday’s contest against Atlanta with a sprained right index finger. The exact severity of the issue remains a bit murky, but fantasy managers shouldn’t expect to see him again until after next week’s All-Star break. He’s been battling finger and shoulder issues for the last few weeks. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese taking over at the hot corner on Saturday afternoon in his absence.

The bullpen shuffle continues for the Cardinals with Graceffo coming up to bolster the club’s relief mix during the final weekend prior to the All-Star break. The 25-year-old righty has struggled to an inflated 6.62 ERA across 17 2/3 innings (10 appearances) this season at the highest level. He’ll likely operate in mop-up duty for the Cardinals.

Svanson heads back to the minors to allow St. Louis to re-stock their bullpen mix with a fresh arm in Gordon Graceffo. The 26-year-old righty threw 34 pitches over 2 2/3 scoreless frames on Friday against Atlanta. He’s posted a strong 3.12 ERA and 24/8 K/BB ratio across 26 innings (17 appearances) this season in low-leverage work. He’ll be back at some point in the early stages of the second half.

It’s become extremely common in recent years for clubs to give a player a quick break following their return from the injured list, especially if they skipped a minor league rehab assignment. Bregman takes a seat on Saturday after going 1-for-4 with a double on Friday in his return to Boston’s lineup following a six-week absence recovering from a quad strain. He’ll likely be back at the hot corner for Sunday’s first-half finale at Fenway Park. It’ll be Marcelo Mayer taking over at third base in this one.

No word yet on the severity of the strain, which will determine how much time Riley winds up missing. It’s a significant loss for Atlanta, and fantasy managers, if he requires a lengthy absence. The 28-year-old slugging third baseman suffered the injury during Friday’s showdown against the Cardinals. He closes out the first half hitting .274/.324/.441 with 14 homers, 48 RBI and two steals in 408 plate appearances over 93 games. It’s theoretically possible he’ll make it back to Atlanta before the end of July, if the strain winds up being on the milder end of the spectrum. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status at some point in the coming days.

Bregman made an instant impact for Boston in his first game action in nearly six weeks. The 31-year-old third baseman’s return coincides with an extended hot streak for the Red Sox, who no longer look like potential sellers at the upcoming trade deadline.
