Nolan Gorman hit a three-run homer and walked Sunday against the Guardians.

Gorman’s three-run homer off Logan Allen in the first was the only scoring in the game through six innings. He later walked and scored a second run in the eighth. The homer was his second of the year against a left-hander. He’s 6-for-36 (.167) against them overall, but then he’s been in the lineup against a southpaw only eight times.

Matthew Liberatore pitched three-hit ball for six innings in the Cardinals’ 7-0 shutout of the Guardians on Sunday.

Liberatore walked five today, but he was facing a team that just isn’t hitting at the moment. The Guardians had three hard-hit balls (all against Liberatore) today, two of which were routine flies from José Ramírez. JoJo Romero, Riley O’Brien and John King each pitched hitless innings afterwards to complete the shutout. Liberatore improved to 6-6 with a 3.70 ERA. He’ll pitch in Wrigley against the Cubs next weekend.

    Recap

Brendan Donovan went 0-for-5 from the leadoff spot Sunday against the Guardians.

Donovan homered Saturday, but he’s currently in a 6-for-43 slump, even though he’s struck out just five times during the span. The 0-for-5 left him with a .297 average, putting him under .300 at the end of a game for the first time since Apr. 6.

Alec Burleson and Lars Nootbaar are on the bench for Sunday’s showdown against the Guardians.

Burleson and Nootbaar take a seat for Sunday afternoon’s matinee with lefty Logan Allen on the mound for Cleveland. It’ll be Brendan Donovan and Garrett Hampson in the corner outfield spots with rookie Thomas Saggese getting an opportunity at the keystone.

Phillies acquired RHP Nolan Hoffman from the Rangers for cash considerations.

Hoffman had a 3.88 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 58 innings for Triple-A Norfolk in Baltimore’s organization last year. There was a chance for him to win a spot in Texas’ bullpen this year, but he instead headed to Triple-A Round Rock, where he has posted a 5.91 ERA. He should serve as organizational depth in Philadelphia

Mets RHP prospect Nolan McLean recorded seven strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Friday for Triple-A Syracuse.

McLean turned in an extremely impressive Triple-A debut with his four-seam, cutter and sweeper mix generated 10 swinging strikes and he recorded an elite 36 percent CSW. The 23-year-old former third-round pick is one of the fastest-rising pitching prospects in the fantasy landscape this season, reaching the doorstep of the majors after posting a 1.37 ERA and 30/12 K/BB ratio across 26 1/3 innings (five starts) to open the year at Double-A Binghamton. The sweeper is a true above-average offering and gives him a real shot at success in the majors. There’s a chance he’s ready to pitch in New York at some point in the second half.
