He then saved the tying run in the bottom of the inning after lunging off the bag at first to prevent an errant throw from Zach Neto allowing Aaron Judge to score. Schanuel also singled earlier in the contest. Because of his lack of power, he’s certainly not very exciting for fantasy purposes. However, with a .285/.377/.398 line in 287 plate appearances, he’s been a pretty solid regular for the Angels this season.

Soriano wasn’t as dominant as when he struck out 12 against the A’s last time out, but it was another excellent, WHIP-lowering effort, as he matched his season-low with one walk. His ERA has dropped from 4.11 to 3.54 in his last two starts. His WHIP, once nearly the worst in the league at 1.59, is back to 1.46. He’ll face the Astros next.

Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth in a tie game tonight. It should have been Brock Burke’s save, but Zach Neto bobbled a grounder and made a wild throw on what would have been the final play of the game. Strickland then took over and got Anthony Volpe to roll a ball to third to end it. A great surprise for the Angels, Strickland has yet to allow a run in 14 1/3 innings since being called up last month. Still, he’s probably not going to be in line for more save chances unless something happens to Jansen.

Schanuel’s home run was his fourth of the year. He hit a solo shot off Scott Blewett in the first inning. Schanuel is hitting .282 with a .770 OPS and 22 RBI on the year. He doesn’t have enough power or speed for shallow formats, but can be a useful bat in AL-Only and deeper mixed leagues.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters Harper isn’t dealing with any sort of setback. The organization simply decided that having him remain back in Philadelphia would be more beneficial for his ongoing rehabilitation process. The 32-year-old fantasy stalwart hit the injured list back in early June with right wrist inflammation, but it sounds like there’s a chance he could return to the Phillies’ lineup at some point before the end of the month. There should be a more definitive return timetable once he’s able to resume swinging a bat pain-free.

Keston Hiura was bumped from the roster to make room. Toglia, demoted May 31 after hitting .194/.266/.349 over the first two months, figures to get his starting job back after coming in at .273/.353/.568 with three homers in 11 minor league games. He still might wind up hitting enough to help in mixed leagues — he was certainly helpful for a time last year — but there’s probably no urgent need to grab him right away.

Horwitz opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning with an RBI single off of right-hander Colin Rea. He also singled with two outs in the sixth inning but the Pirates were unable to cash him in. With his two-hit attack, the 27-year-old first baseman is now hitting .227/.299/.330 with one long ball and seven RBI.
