Smith was just 1-for-19 in the month of May coming into Saturday’s game, but broke out of that funk in a nice way. His double in the ninth extended the D-Backs’ lead to 3-0, and gave him 10 RBI over 37 games played. Even with his scuffles in May, he’s still hitting .302/.442/.531 over 96 at-bats.

The last we had heard was that Puk was visiting Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Thursday, not that he was going there to have the procedure done, but it seemed like an inevitability. He’ll miss the remainder of the 2025 season and the bulk of the 2026 campaign while recovering.

The 24-year-old superstar was hit in the hand by a pitch during Wednesday’s game against the Blue Jays. While he felt improvement after sitting out Thursday’s game, the Diamondbacks want to give him an extra day just to be on the safe side. Randal Grichuk will start in his place in right field once again and will bat sixth for the Diamondbacks against Austin Gomber and the Rockies.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told MLB Network Radio that Carroll is “very close” to returning, but it sounds like that won’t take place after he left Wednesday’s game with a contusion on his hand. It’d be an upset — and upsetting — if Carroll doesn’t return before the end of the weekend.

Clemens hit one of four homers for the Twins on the day with a two-run shot off Nick Martinez. The 29-year-old has swatted seven homers on the season, and he’s slugging a solid .496 for his trouble. Unfortunately, that slugging mark has come with a .219 average, but hey, dingers.

This is the first right-handed pitcher that the Twins have faced since Royce Lewis (hamstring) landed back on the IL. With Clemens at second base, Willi Castro will shift to left field, and Harrison Bader will be on the bench. Bader has set against right-handed pitching recently, so this might be the new lineup against righties with Lewis on the IL and Brooks Lee shifting over to third base. That would make Clemens more attractive in deeper formats, but it still seems like he’s going to sit against all left-handed pitchers.

The Rangers were one strike away from being shut out in this one when Heim blasted a 362-foot (96.1 mph EV) two-run shot off of Ian Hamilton to pull them to within three runs at 5-2. Heim also doubled off of Will Warren in the ballgame, finishing the night 2-for-4. On the season, the 29-year-old backstop is now slashing .262/.309/.429 to go along with six long balls and 17 RBI.
