Thomson didn’t dismiss the possibility that Harper could be activated for Monday’s series opener against the Padres. It certainly sounds like he’ll be ready to return to Philadelphia’s lineup at some point in the coming days after progressing to taking on-field batting practice and going through his full pregame routine the last few days. The 32-year-old fantasy superstar has been out since early June recovering from right wrist inflammation.

That’s the good news. The bad was that his velocity was down significantly. He threw just four four-seam fastballs all day and averaged 89.0 mph with those, down from 92.1 mph on average for the season. His sinker and curve were both off by about two mph. Maybe he was a little under the weather or something, but we’ll be watching out. Only his own body has been able to hold back Suárez this year. He’s allowed seven runs — six earned — over his last eight starts, and he’s now 7-2 with a 2.00 ERA overall. He’s due to face the Reds next.

Orion Kerkering got the top of the order in the eighth and worked a scoreless frame. Strahm gave up a one-out single to Ozzie Albies and then, after getting out No. 2, he walked Eli White, with a wild pitch on ball four allowing Albies to go to third. However, he then retired Stuart Fairchild to end the contest. The Phillies appear mostly content to play matchups with Kerkering and Strahm at the end of games right now. Both are viable options in mixed leagues, but not great ones.

Luzardo did allow seven hits and three walks, but the punchouts helped keep the Atlanta offense in check. Just not in check enough to get a win with Spencer Schwellenbach dominating the Philadelphia lineup. Luzardo now has an ERA of 4.06 on the season, but he’s been better than that much for the overwhelming majority of the season. He’ll face off against the Reds on Friday and look for a similar outing with more run support.

Arizona is going to give Naylor some extra rest during Sunday’s contest as he continues to battle a lingering neck issue that cropped up during Friday’s game. It’ll be Pavin Smith moving over to cover first base in his absence. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Monday’s series opener against the Giants.

Contreras’ home run was No. 11 on the season. He hit a solo shot off Kolby Allard in the ninth inning to extend the Cardinals’ lead to 9-6. Contreras is hitting .249 with a .768 OPS and 51 RBI on the year.
