Painter made the National League’s roster for the annual prospect showcase, but will not pitch in the actual game itself. The 22-year-old is completely healthy, but will remain shut down during the All-Star break, in an effort to have him available at some point for Philadelphia’s second-half playoff push. He’s showcased top-of-the-rotation stuff this season at the Triple-A level, but the surface stats haven’t exactly backed it up, with a pedestrian 4.24 ERA and 45/18 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings over nine starts. He projects as an immediate impact contributor for fantasy purposes once he arrives in the big leagues.

The team will see how Nola responds and then decide the next step. The veteran would likely progress to throwing bullpens before a rehab assignment. At this point, the best-case scenario would be a return right after the All-Star break, but early August may be a better bet.

Wheeler authored a dominant performance on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park, limiting San Diego’s lineup to just six hits and one extra-base knock over eight stellar frames. The 35-year-old fantasy ace generated an eye-popping 19 swinging strikes, including nine on his fastball alone, to record his third double-digit strikeout performance of the year. He continues building a strong case to start the upcoming All-Star Game with a stellar 2.27 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 136/25 K/BB ratio across 107 innings over 17 starts. He’ll face the Reds on Sunday in his next outing.
