Pillar has been battling a lingering back issue the last few weeks and the Rangers are going to give him some extra time off to put the issue to bed. He’ll likely return in a couple weeks to his role as a reserve outfielder.

Freeman is now hitting .312/.360/.494 in 67 games at Triple-A with 10 home runs and six steals. He has cut his strikeout rate in half this season by not focusing so much on pulling the ball and making better swing decisions. He has an impressive 89 percent contact rate and a minuscule 5.1 percent swinging strike rate. The former fourth-round pick may be a better option than Justin Foscue to fill in at the hot corner with Jake Burger (oblique) on the IL.

Colton Cowser had the single. It was a hard grounder that first baseman Josh Smith might have had a diving stab at, but he instead opted to head to first in the hopes that Marcus Semien would be able to corral it. Semien, though, never had a shot. The Rangers were probably fine with that outcome, as they weren’t going to want deGrom to throw 110-120 pitches chasing the no-no. He wound up needing 89 to get 21 outs, finishing with seven strikeouts and two walks. It’s his fifth scoreless start this season, and he moved to 8-2 with a 2.08 ERA. He’ll take on the Orioles again next week.

The homer was Jung’s first since May 16. He was hitting .291/.326/.507 at the conclusion of that game, but he’d come in at just .189/.250/.221 in 32 games since. Statcast thinks he’s been rather unlucky, but his exit velocity numbers aren’t nearly as good now as in his impressive rookie campaign two years ago. He needs to step it up in the second half to ensure that he remains the Rangers’ third baseman for 2026 and beyond.

Sosa singled off of Valdez in the second inning, but the Phillies ultimately couldn’t cash him in from second base. He then smacked a one-out double in the fourth inning but was cut down attempting to score on a ground ball to third baseman Isaac Paredes. With his two-hit effort, the 29-year-old infielder is slashing a solid .290/.336/.411 with two home runs and 16 RBI on the season.

The 29-year-old infielder smacked a run-scoring single off of Michael Petersen in the eighth inning that pulled the Phillies to within six runs at 8-2. That would be as close as they would get. He has been swinging an extremely hot bat for the Phillies this season, slashing .324/.370/.432 with one homer, 13 RBI and zero stolen bases through his first 82 plate appearances.
