Holmes gave up two hits, walked two and struck out 15. The 15 strikeouts were obviously a career-high for Holmes and came just a day after Spencer Strider struck out 13 Rockies on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Braves’ offense didn’t support Holmes and he was saddled with a loss against the worst team in baseball this year. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 3.97 ERA and his 3.47 xFIP shows more room for improvement. Holmes is set to face the Marlins on the road next weekend.

Instead, Sale will start against the Mets with that series beginning Tuesday and going through Thursday. The 36-year-old will get some extra rest, and also won’t be wasted against the worst team in baseball. Grant Holmes will start Sunday’s game instead.

Strider was upset about being removed after 87 pitches, but he had nothing else to prove today. Even if he had been facing a major league lineup, he would have been in good shape today with his fastball back up to 96.2 mph on average, a gain of 1.1 mph over his season mark. He topped out at 98.1 mph. His 35 sliders produced an incredible 17 whiffs on 23 swings. The victory makes Strider 1-5 with a 4.35 ERA. He’ll have another favorable assignment against the Marlins next week.

Judge had four three-strikeout games this season before these last two series against the Red Sox. He fanned three times once last weekend in Yankee Stadium and did so in all three games in Boston this this weekend. His average is down to .378, which is still incredible but is his lowest mark since Apr. 15.

It appears to be a routine off day for Tucker with Seiya Suzuki heading out to patrol right field on Sunday afternoon against the Pirates. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar has been scuffling of late by his lofty standards, hitting .240 (12-for-50) with only one homer and two steals over his last 15 contests.
