It was a given that Acuña would run less in his return from a torn ACL, but we were still wondering how much less. He finally attempted and succeeded on his first steal in his 19th game of the year tonight. In his MVP season of 2023, he attempted 87 steals, with 73 successes, in 159 games.

After striking out 12 Giants last time out, Elder seemed like a fine streaming choice against the impotent Rockies tonight. However, he couldn’t make it out of the fourth while giving up seven hits and three walks. A couple of meekly hit doubles and groundball singles didn’t help the cause. Oddly enough, the Rockies were 3-for-8 when they hit the ball hard against him and 4-for-6 when they didn’t. Elder isn’t recommended with the Mets next on the schedule.

The Braves seem to have settled on Iglesias in the eighth and Dylan Lee in the ninth for now, but it’s not working out for Lee; both times he’s been in position to close, the Braves offense has added on and turned it into a non-save situation. That was the case tonight; Iglesias pitched in a three-run game before the Braves scored five times in the bottom of the eighth. Lee then followed with a scoreless ninth. We’d still say Iglesias is the better use of a roster spot in fantasy leagues, even though Lee probably will get some save chances in the short term.

Alvarez played just two games in the Florida Complex League, but he will now step up his rehab significantly in Triple-A. He has been out all season with his wrist injury and will need some time to get his rhythm back, but it’s possible he could return to Atlanta as a backup middle infielder.

O’Neill will not do any baseball activities for a week. The outfielder will then likely restart his rehab assignment, and if things go well he could be back in the Baltimore lineup by the end of June. That will depend largely on how O’Neill reacts to the injection, however.

The 21-year-old phenom had started each of his first four games since joining the Red Sox on Monday, but he’ll get a breather against tough southpaw Carlos Rodon on Saturday evening in Boston. Rob Refsnyder will start in his place in right field and hit out of the leadoff spot for the Red Sox with Jarren Duran sliding down to the fifth spot in the lineup.

The 23-year-old slugger has been shelved since May 29 due to inflammation in his left wrist. He took a few at-bats on a minor league rehab assignment over the past two days and was deemed ready to return. He’ll start in right field and bat seventh against Jose Quintana and the Brewers on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.
