This was Blanco’s best start of the season results wise by far, but he still faced some of the same challenges that have caused him to start slow. The Angels had plenty of traffic on the bases as Blanco struggled to spot his slider against this right-handed heavy lineup. However, he worked his curveball well as a pitch he could consistently throw in the zone and stole seven called strikes with it and then mixed his pitches well when ahead in the count to set down what was a red-hot Angels lineup. This was a huge step in the right direction and he’ll look to build on it in his next scheduled start against the Cardinals.

The positive news for fantasy managers is that Paredes has managed to avoid a trip to the injured list after suffering a hamstring injury during Thursday’s showdown against the White Sox. The 26-year-old infielder figures to be ready to return to Houston’s lineup at some point during a four-game series against the Athletics, which kicks off on Monday night. It’ll be Luis Guillorme filling in at third base on Sunday afternoon in his absence.

Smith’s grounder hit to the left side hit right in front of the plate, but at 107.5 mph off the bat, if had just enough to get through the infield. Smith also had a 105.8-mph lineout to center today. Since a five-game hitless streak from May 30-June 4, Smith has gone 8-for-28 with six RBI in his last six games. He’s not a consistent run producer just yet, but it’s only a matter of time.

The only damage came on a 345-foot homer from Brooks Lee. It’s Brown’s second career 10-strikeout game; he previous fanned exactly 10 against the A’s on May 26, 2023. It seems like he should have more of those, but he’s fanned nine on six occasions this year. Brown is tied for fifth in the majors with 105 strikeouts in 86 innings. He’ll likely face the Angels next Friday, unless the Astros want to move him up to take on the A’s on Thursday.
