The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya adds that Ohtani threw fastballs and splitters exclusively in his latest side session. The 30-year-old two-way superstar remains without a definitive timetable to return to pitching in game action and hasn’t progressed to facing hitters yet in live batting practice. It seems unlikely that he’s going to be ready until sometime in the second half, if it happens at all.

The 23-year-old hurler finally resumed throwing last week, but he’s still not comfortable while throwing with any sort of intensity so the Dodgers have shut him back down. It’s starting to sound like the Dodgers aren’t sure whether or not Sasaki is going to be able to return at all this season. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues may want to cut bait if you’re faced with any sort of roster crunch.

It was 11-0 until; the ninth, when the Dodgers tried to save a little wear on their pitchers by putting in Enrique Hernández for the final inning. Hernández, though, gave up a grand slam and five runs while getting two outs, and Anthony Banda ended up finishing the game. Ohtani has 25 homers this year, leaving him one behind Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh for the MLB lead. He’s up to 250 career homers in 929 games since debuting in 2018.
