Ohtani’s return to the mound saw him give up two hits and the aforementioned run with no walks and no strikeouts. The command wasn’t great — which is to be expected given the long layoff and no rehab outings — but the stuff looked fine, and he touched 100 mph during the outing. Ohtani will likely be an opener again in his next outing, and gradually be built up to work as a starter in the summer months. Oh, he’s also a very good hitter.

Yates has his second save of the season, and second as a member of the Dodgers after signing in the offseason. The 38-year-old didn’t allow a hit while throwing 9-of-15 pitches for strikes. This was Yates’ first chance at a save since May 5, and fantasy managers shouldn’t count on too many more over the summer.

Snell has completed a couple bullpen sessions over the last week as he continues to make gradual progress in his recovery from a shoulder issue that put him on the shelf back in early April. The 32-year-old southpaw is finally pain free and should progress to facing hitters by late June or early July, which puts him on track to return at some point in the early stages of the second half.

It’s officially happening. Ohtani returns to a major-league mound for the first time since August 23, 2023. The 30-year-old two-way sensation is unlikely to pitch more than one or two innings on Monday night at Dodger Stadium since he threw only 44 pitches last week in his most recent simulated game. He’ll be followed by Ben Casparius operating in a bulk relief role. It’s worth noting that Los Angeles isn’t giving him the night off from hitting as he’s also at DH and leading off during his return to the mound. Get your popcorn ready.

The double, a hard grounder that went through third baseman Luis Rengifo, led off the bottom of the ninth in a scoreless game. Stanton was then removed for pinch-runner Jasson Domínguez, who was quickly retired on a grounder that reached Rengifo at third at basically the same time Domínguez did, resulting in a little collision and a great tag play from Rengifo. Stanton’s balls in play tonight were hit 101.5, 111.1 and 102.9 mph. He also struck out once.

The fact that Alvarez still remains completely shut down from hitting, according to an official team medical report, as he continues to recover from a small fracture in his right hand seems to signal that he won’t make it back until after next month’s All-Star break. There isn’t an official timetable for his return yet, but he’s still several weeks away based on this latest update.

O’Hearn sat out a pair of contests over the weekend with left ankle soreness. The 31-year-old slugger is back at first base and batting fifth on Monday evening with rookie Coby Mayo getting the night off.
