Pham had gone 181 plate appearances without a homer this season. One could argue that the Pirates should have DFA’d him a month ago or even two months ago, but he might be getting things together now; collecting five hits the last two days has raised his OPS from .498 to .565.

Hayes also had a 106.4-mph liner to left turn into an out and then a double play, because Oneil Cruz just assumed something hit that hard to the outfield was going to drop. Hayes is batting .300 over his last 16 games, though that comes with just two extra-base hits and two walks. He’s at .239/.292/.293 overall.

Falter was replaced after the delay by Braxton Ashcraft, who did a nice job in stranding both runners he inherited. Falter threw just 30 pitches today, so the Pirates have some options in how they use him over the next week. Perhaps they could have him pitch in relief once. He’s scheduled to make his next start Friday against the Mariners, but the Pirates have an off day right before that and can be flexible.

The 29-year-old hurler pitched one inning in his first outing on Friday, allowing one hit (a solo home run) while striking out the other three batters that he faced. Holderman has been sidelined since May 20 due to inflammation in his right thumb. He should only need a handful of outings in the minor leagues before he’s cleared to return to the Pirates’ bullpen.

It appears to be just a routine day off for the 27-year-old outfielder. Jake Bauers will start in his place in left field and will bat seventh for the Brewers against Antonio Senzatela and the Rockies on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Collins led off the second inning with a base hit and scored on a sacrifice fly. He then plated a run with a sac fly in the eighth before scoring and drove in two more with a double in the ninth. The 27-year-old outfielder has gotten consistent playing time in left field for the Brewers, hitting .254/.358/406 with four homers and seven steals across 163 plate appearances.

Collins walloped a 388-foot (99.9 mph EV) two-run shot off of Ben Brown in the second inning that gave the Brewers an early 2-0 advantage. It would be short lived though. He also doubled to lead off the fourth inning, but never advanced past second base. With his two-hit night, the 27-year-old outfielder is now hitting .242/.349/.375 with three homers, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases in his first 150 plate appearances with the Brewers.
