As a team, the Pirates tallied five hits on the afternoon — all of them singles — with Pham the only player to collect more than one. The 37-year-old outfielder has had an extremely disappointing season at the dish, slashing a meager .237/.308/.300 with just two homers, 22 RBI and three stolen bases.

Armed with his new contact prescription, Pham is one of the hottest hitters in baseball. Three more hits here gives him a .337/.394/.478 over his last 30 games and there are no signs of him slowing down. The Pirates have bumped him up to the lead-off spot during this hot streak and he should be productive there until he’s likely traded to a contender later this month.

Falter didn’t have much going for him here. Here barely missed any bats and gave up a lot of hard contact, most notable a 466 foot home run by Jac Caglianone. He was fortunate to only allow the three runs considering the Royals put runners on base in every inning and had four extra-base hits in total. The Pirates will (hopefully) call up star prospect Bubba Chandler at some point during the second half and that could put Falter’s rotation spot in jeopardy, unless he or another starter is traded before that happens.

At least he avoided the loss. Keller is 0-for-10 with four no-decisions when giving up more than one run this season. It’s been exactly one year since his last win while allowing more than one run; he allowed two runs over eight innings in an 8-2 defeat of the Mets on July 8, 2024. The Pirates have Thursday off, so unless something changes in the rotation, Keller’s next outing will probably come in the first game after the break.

Schneider opened the scoring in the ballgame with a 384-foot (103.0 mph EV) solo shot off of Aaron Civale to lead off the third inning. That led to a five-run uprising in the frame for the Blue Jays. Schneider finished the night 1-for-4 and is now hitting .219/.352/.411 with four homers and 10 RBI in 88 plate appearances on the season.

Schneider was in the lineup against a right-hander for just the fourth time this season and came through nicely, homering off Will Warren in the first and lefty reliever Tim Hill in the seventh. They were his second and third homers in 71 plate appearances this season. He’s batting .228/.380/.421 while mostly playing versus southpaws.

What a revelation Collins has been in batting .270/.375/.423 in 194 plate appearances for the Brewers. His exit velocity numbers aren’t very good, and the power production probably won’t be there to keep him relevant in mixed leagues for long. He could remain solid from an OBP standpoint, though, and he’s been very good defensively in left field.
