There simply wasn’t a window to dodge the thunderstorms and get this contest in as originally scheduled so the two sides will reconvene on Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader instead. Tuesday night’s original starters — Freddy Peralta and Clay Holmes — will be pushed back to take the ball at some point during Wednesday’s twin bill at Citi Field.

Holmes allowed a leadoff homer in the first, but he otherwise kept the Brewers scoreless until the sixth, when he was pulled with a 2-1 lead after walking Christian Yelich and retiring Jackson Chourio on a flyout. Reed Garrett took over at that point and allowed three straight batters to reach before giving up a grand slam to Joey Ortiz. Holmes had walked four in the contest, but he was at only 90 pitches when he was lifted. Carlos Mendoza surely would have stuck with him if he could get a do over. Holmes will miss facing the Yankees this weekend and instead get the Orioles on Tuesday.

The Mets are treating Freddy Peralta like he’s a left-hander by starting Marte and dropping Nimmo from his usual second spot in the lineup, and it’s not a bad idea; Peralta has reverse splits in his career. Nimmo is also 0-for-8 against him lifetime. It’s Marte’s first start against a righty since Mark Vientos came off the injured list.

Castillo was cut loose from New York’s relief mix last week after pitching to a respectable 2.38 ERA across 11 1/3 innings over 13 appearances. The 29-year-old southpaw has the option to elect free agency or wait around for another shot with the Mets.
