Gillispie, who is 0-3 with an 8.65 ERA in six major league starts this season, was DFA’d by the Marlins last week. His lack of velocity leaves him with a low ceiling, but he can eat some innings as a swingman if needed.

Correa went back-to-back with Trevor Larnach in the sixth inning to get the Twins to within five runs at 7-2. It’s just the sixth homer of the season for the 30-year-old shortstop, and he’s still slugging just .392 after the roundtripper. Correa has been known to go on power streaks, so perhaps this will be the start of one. It’s hard to count on at this point, however.

Ober pitched better than this line indicates. Six of the seven runs allowed came in the third inning — five of them on homers — and outside of that frame the 6-foot-9 right-hander kept Seattle off balance. All that being said, you give up six runs in an inning, you’re gonna have a bad time. Ober will try and erase that frame from memory and lower an unsightly 4.90 ERA against the Tigers on Saturday.

Hayes adds that its unclear when the club exercised the option, but if there were any questions regarding Baldelli’s immediate job security, it doesn’t appear that he’s going anywhere for now. The Twins have underachieved this season during Baldelli’s seventh season at the helm, and they’ve lost 13 of their last 17 games overall. However, they’re just a couple games out of a Wild Card spot leading up to the All-Star break.
