Freeman is at DH and batting second for the second straight contest on Monday night at Nationals Park. The versatile 26-year-old could be worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues, if he’s able to remain near the top of Colorado’s lineup for the remainder of the year. He’s been on a roll lately, hitting .381 (16-for-42) with one homer and two steals over his last 15 games.

Keston Hiura was bumped from the roster to make room. Toglia, demoted May 31 after hitting .194/.266/.349 over the first two months, figures to get his starting job back after coming in at .273/.353/.568 with three homers in 11 minor league games. He still might wind up hitting enough to help in mixed leagues — he was certainly helpful for a time last year — but there’s probably no urgent need to grab him right away.

It’s very doubtful that Hiura would have proven to be an answer for the Rockies, but it’s a little bizarre that the team didn’t even want to play him over Orlando Arcia at first base. Hiura wound up 4-for-18 with a double during his 16 days with the club.

Fulford had quite a day at the plate. He had a sacrifice fly in the third inning, a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning and a three-run triple in the eighth inning. Fulford doesn’t have much fantasy value as the Rockies’ backup catcher, but it was still an impressive performance.

This was a 1-1 game through six before the Red Sox scored twice in the seventh and three times in the eighth. Hamilton, who just 3-for-33 coming in, doubled his season hit total tonight. Triston Casas’s injury doesn’t figure to benefit Hamilton overly much, so he can be left on the waiver wire in spite of his stolen base ability.

Kristian Campbell will shift to center field, and Ceddanne Rafaela will take a seat on the bench. Rafaela is hitting .231/.302/.385 with four steals and a 12:2 K:BB ratio over his last 12 games, but Hamilton has not been playing well enough to be a real threat to his playing time. The bigger threat would be the Red Sox calling up Roman Anthony and moving Jarren Duran to center field.

Hamilton’s third-inning round-tripper — his first big fly of the season — represented the lone tally for either side during a rare low-scoring pitcher’s duel at high-octane Steinbrenner Field. The 27-year-old speedster figures to continue splitting time between shortstop and second base whenever Trevor Story or Kristian Campbell require a day off.
