Caratini came up against Mason Miller with a pair of runners on base, and launched his sixth homer of the year to tie the game at 4-4. He went hitless with three strikeouts in his other at-bats, but fantasy managers will take three-run homer games regardless of the other results. Caratini had just three hits in his first 10 games of June, but six in three games for this series against the Athletics.

Gordon allowed seven hits, with two of those landing over the fence. The right-hander was able to strike out four with one walk in a decidedly average outing for the 26-year-old. Gordon has allowed 20 hits over his three starts in June, but he’s allowed only five earned runs over his 16 innings. He’ll face the Phillies on Wednesday.

There were reports earlier in the week that Alvarez felt “a lot better” and that it was a day-to-day type of thing, so expect him to pick up a bat any day now. There’s also no word on whether or not the 27-year-old superstar will require at-bats in minor league rehab games or if he’ll simply return to the lineup when he’s ready to go.

Garcia continues to make solid progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The Astros are hopeful that the 28-year-old hurler will be able to return in late July or early August, which would provide the club’s starting rotation with a major boost over the final two months of the regular season.

The 31-year-old elected free agency on Friday after he was sent outright to Triple-A Indianapolis, but it sounds like the two sides were eventually able to reach an agreement. The 31-year-old backstop will continue to function as extra catching depth for the Bucs.

This is what the Mariners were envisioning when they offered Garver a two-year, $24 million contract to serve as a DH and a backup to Cal Raleigh; the duo combined for four homers today. They now have 32 homers between them this season! Alas, 29 of those do belong to Raleigh, as Garver has slipped into a platoon role against lefties while batting .216/.321/.319. Garver’s second homer today was the 100th of his career.

The recovery timetable for that injury ranges from two-to-six weeks, so it sounds like Herrera could be shelved for a while once again. Pedro Pages will handle the bulk of the action behind the dish once again while Herrera is sidelined.
