    Walker Buehler

    Walker Buehler

    BOS • • #

Walker Buehler was pulled after giving up four runs in four innings Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Buehler gave up a pair of solo homers in the first, then retired 10 in a row. The next batter he faced in the fourth had a soft line drive single and everything unraveled afterwards; Buehler walked Ernie Clement, gave up an RBI single and then walked two more to force in another run. The inning only ended because Carlos Narváez picked off Tyler Heineman at first. Buehler was still at just 72 pitches for the day, but the Red Sox didn’t send him back out. He’s given up 14 runs over 11 1/3 innings in his last three starts, and it might be time for a mercy IL stint here. If not, he’ll face the Nationals next weekend.

    Jovani Morán

Jovani Morani threw a scoreless inning as an opener at Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Morani was acquired by the Red Sox in the off-season while he was working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He completed his rehab assignment and was assigned to Triple-A Worcester, where he has allowed one run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings while striking out three and walking one. With Brennan Bernardino struggling of late, Morani could get a shot in the Boston bullpen soon.

Tanner Houck (forearm) allowed four runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Houck struck out three and walked one while averaging 93.6 mph on his sinker, which is down about one mph from his MLB innings this year. With Kyle Harrison likely joining the Boston rotation in a week or two, Houck may have to move to the bullpen in order to contribute MLB innings in 2025.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Jordan Hicks (toe) is expected to be activated at some point early next week.

Hicks figures to join Boston’s bullpen at some point during a three-game series against the Reds at Fenway Park, which gets underway on Monday evening. The hard-throwing 28-year-old was acquired earlier this month from the Giants in the Rafael Devers trade and figures to pitch in high-leverage spots.
