After his big hit, Abreu came around to score on a near homer-turned-double from Trevor Story. Both of Abreu’s hits came after play resumed today. He’s 6-for-16 with three homers, a double and 10 RBI in his last four games.

It’ll ostensibly be a bullpen game for the Red Sox as they opted to let Kyle Harrison make his scheduled start at Triple-A Worcester and also rolled with Brayan Bello during the resumption of Tuesday’s suspended game. Swingman Cooper Criswell — who has been called up as the 27th man for the twin bill — will be tasked with gobbling up most of the frames on Wednesday evening at Fenway Park during a bulk relief appearance following Bernardino’s opening effort.

Bello took over this afternoon when play resumed in the fourth and got off to a rough start. With one out, he walked Gavin Lux after getting ahead of him 0-2, and he then gave up a two-run homer to Spencer Steer. As it turned out, it’d be the lone hit the Reds would manage over the rest of the contest. Bello was at just 62 pitches through his five innings and surely would have remained in had the Red Sox not taken a lead in the bottom of the eighth. At that point, the Red Sox turned to Aroldis Chapman to lock the game down. The win moved Bello to 4-3 with a 3.42 ERA ahead of a home start against the Rockies next week. Incidentally, it’s also the first time Richard Fitts’ 11 career starts that the Red Sox have prevailed. He pitched three innings of one-run ball before the game was suspended.

Chapman is the 14th pitcher to reach 350 saves. Nine more this year would move him past Troy Percival, and there’s an outside chance of him getting 18 and 19 to overtake Jeff Readon and Jonathan Papelbon, respectively. However, with the Red Sox not really looking like top contenders, it’s quite possible that Chapman will be traded, perhaps to a team that would use him in more of a setup role.

As expected, Carpenter hits the injured list before Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Nationals. He’ll likely be out through the All-Star break. Trey Sweeney was recalled from Triple-A to take Carpenter’s spot on the roster.

The 32-year-old slugger got the scoring started in the ballgame with a two-run knock off of Brandon Young in the third inning. He then doubled with two outs in the fifth inning and rode home on Alejandro Osuna’s two-run blast. García also smacked another two-run single into left field in the sixth that extended the Rangers’ lead to 7-2. While he has picked up the pace offensively, he’s still slashing an underwhelming .231/.276/.395 with 10 homers, 49 RBI and eight stolen bases on the season.

The Angels scored a run on an RBI double by Jo Adell in the top half of the eighth inning to take a 1-0 lead then Soler followed with a two-run double that seemingly put the game out of reach at that stage. A fun night for Soler to victimize his former ballclub in his first game back off the injured list. On the season, the 33-year-old slugger is slashing an underwhelming .209/.287/.356 with eight long balls and 28 RBI.
