The Yankees needed to make room on the 40-man roster for Cam Schlittler to make his debut on Wednesday, so Hartleib was designated for assignment. He will likely clear waivers and return to the Yankees’ minor league system.

This move has been discussed for a few days, but is now official. The 24-year-old has been great this season with a 2.82 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 99/26 K/BB ratio across 76 2/3 innings (15 appearances, 14 starts) between Triple-A and Double-A. He has a high-velocity cut/ride fastball with two good secondaries, but his start on Wednesday against the Mariners will be a big step up in competition. If he performs well, he could remain in the rotation until Luis Gil returns and potentially even keep a spot over Marcus Stroman after that.

Stanton’s second homer in 17 games since returning from his elbow injuries helped knock Logan Gilbert out of what had been a 1-0 game in the sixth. He’s batting .241/.333/.379 right now, and while he’s definitely not quite yet hitting the ball consistently as hard as usual, the power is still very much there; he’s already topped out at 118 mph.

Unlike Logan Gilbert, Warren had no issues with the 35-minute rain delay tonight, though maybe his was a little easier; because he was mid-inning when it happened, his delay was actually 35 minutes, whereas Gilbert went closer to 50 minutes between pitches. Warren is now 6-4 with a 4.70 ERA that doesn’t really illustrate how much more often he’s been good than bad. He’ll finish off the first half with a start against the Cubs.
