It’s a brutal development for the Yankees, and fantasy managers alike, as Schmidt had pitched to a strong 3.32 ERA across 78 2/3 innings (14 starts) this season before hitting the injured list earlier this week with forearm tightness. The 29-year-old’s absence puts some additional strain on New York’s rotation heading towards the trade deadline. Allan Winans and Cam Schlittler are the most likely candidates to fill his rotation spot. Given the timing of the procedure, Schmidt is unlikely to make it back until the late stages of the 2026 season.

Rodón didn’t fool many batters today; 12 of the 17 balls in play against him were hit hard, with eight of those checking in at over 104 mph. He gave up a grand slam to Brandon Nimmo in the first and later a two-run homer to Pete Alonso in the fifth. Rodón was 8-3 with a 2.49 ERA through 13 starts, but he’s 1-3 with a 5.34 ERA in his last six outings, five of which have turned into Yankees losses. In fact, the team now has a losing record, at 9-10, in his 19 starts this year. He’ll face the Cubs in his first-half finale.

Judge was able to remain in the game after being hit in the face by a thrown ball from Anthony Volpe that left him with a cut near his eye. It happened after the fifth inning as Judge was coming off the field; he usually does collect a baseball after each inning to throw to a fan, but he obviously didn’t see it coming this time.

Candelario was released by the Reds after hitting just .113/.198/.213 in 91 plate appearances in 2025. The 31-year-old could be a bench option for the Yankees if he performs well in Triple-A with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but will need to be added to the 40-man roster in order to be promoted. It’s hard to imagine he’ll be fantasy relevant if/when he gets that promotion to New York.
