Kikuchi was far from dominant, but didn’t have to be with Zac Gallen performing inadequately in his five innings. The 2025 All-Star struck out five, but gave up a pair of homers to Eugenio Suárez and an RBI single to Randal Grichuk. The last two starts weren’t overly impressive, but Kikuchi has had an excellent first half with a 3.11 ERA and 115/49 K/BB ratio over 20 starts and 113 innings. His next appearance will likely take place at the All-Star Game in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Bremner saw his stock drop after an uneven junior season in the Big West, but the Angels obviously liked what they saw. His 3.49 ERA is on the high side, but it came with an 111/19 K/BB ratio over 77 1/3 innings. There are two pitches the get plus-plus or (70 on the 20-80 scouting scale) grades in a fastball that can get into the high 90s, and a change with late fade that comes from the same arm speed as that heater. The issue is that his breaking-ball is an inconsistent offering at best, and while he throws a lot of strikes, the command isn’t as good as the control. Bremner would be a lights-out reliever, but the stuff is good enough for him to be a starter who pitches near the top of a rotation someday, too.

Schanuel also drew a walk to make it a four-reach day. The 23-year-old first baseman has driven in 40 runs over the Angels’ first 94 games, and he’s slashed a solid — if unspectacular — .278/.368/.405. The floor for Schanuel is high. The ceiling is very much a question mark.

Trout’s 17th homer of the 2025 campaign gave the Angels a 6-2 lead in the fifth. The future Hall of Famer drove in two more with a single in the eighth to make it 10-5 and put the game out of reach. Trout is hitting just .236, but the .471 slugging percentage and .359 on-base mark have been nice to see over the first half of the 2025 season.
